I'm on vacation this week in Orlando this week (hence the "sporadic-ness" of posts). Anyway, while driving back and forth from my timeshare to Disney World and back, I've noticed that one of the biggest growth industries in this part of the country is the selling to timeshare properties. It's big business down here—lots of money being spent every day by folks wanting to have a permanent place to stay down here instead of calling hotel after hotel looking for a good rate.
With that said, I've also learned from some fellow owners I've met down here that a good number of timeshares are being sold "on the road", meaning that interested parties call the company and a sales person ventures out to them, complete with laptop to give a "show and tell" of the location, along with their smartphones equipped with e-mail to send alerts to the sales office letting them know that a prospective buyer wants to tour the property. In fact, as we were leaving our "home" to head out this morning, I encountered a sales person in the middle of a tour. I quickly pulled her aside, and asked her how much time she actually spends in the office. She said "virtually zero percent"—she does everything "mobile-ly", as she put it. And she said she enjoyed the freedom and the flexibility.
